The KB-14's card--which pivots on a polished sapphire tip--is immersed in a special dampening fluid that provides vibration-free, smooth movement. In addition, the liquid remains clear and its viscosity low under all conditions. Additional features include a permanent anti-static treatment, a horizontally restricted lens aperture that automatically centers the eye on the optical axis (thus eliminating parallax), a cotangent table on the rear for easy reference, and a threaded camera tripod adapter for steady and precise measurements. Finally, the KB-14, which measures 2 by 3 by 0.6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs a mere 4.05 ounces, comes with an imitation leather storage case that's both saltwater- and UV-resistant.
The KB-14 hand-bearing compass is an excellent tool for foresters, surveyors and geologists and many others. Suunto bearing compasses are designed to combine extreme accuracy with ease and speed of operation. With a built-in, maintenance-free light source the compasses can be used even in total darkness.
